I'm a design engineer and researcher based in Hampshire. I make prototypes of products (mainly physical products: hardware, electronics, things that talk to the web etc.) and deliver research projects (UX, design, technology, innovation) for clients.
After studying product design at Brunel University, I worked in knowledge transfer and as a design engineer for an SME, using super-capacitor and microcontroller technologies to develop portable power products for industrial and military customers.
I moved on to study environmental policy at Imperial College, then worked for the RSA's Action & Research Centre, researching and writing about the implications of design, the behavioural sciences and technology on public services and society.
I left the RSA to co-found a startup company called Homely in the domestic energy efficiency sector, before winding it up in 2014. As well as freelancing, I'm a part-time employee of University of Southampton, based in their strategy department.
I make prototypes of new products for SMEs, startups and entrepreneurs. Get in touch if you need to add extra capacity or capabilities to your R&D team, or if you're an entrepreneur who wants to demonstrate your idea.
I can provide the following services:
I'm happy to consider various projects, but I've got particular experience working with microcontrollers and single-board computers, batteries and super-capacitors, AC power monitoring and devices that talk to the internet.
I manage and deliver research projects for organisations. If you want to test the market for a new initiative, find out what users think of your product, or are developing a new strategy and need contextual analysis, get in touch.
In particular, I offer:
I've got experience working on environment and technology public policy, behavioural sciences (in particular their link to technology), social innovation / enterprise and the design sector.
