Leading Business by Design

Facilitating a workshop and writing a report for Design Council

Research and Strategy

I've freelanced for Design Council on a few projects over the last couple of years, including:

  • Helping the Policy & Research team start the Leading Business by Design research programme (identifying & recruiting businesses, managing the research process)
  • Working with staff across the organisation to implement the Championing Great Design strategy (developing concepts for new services, developing business plans)

Earlier this year I was asked to contribute again to the Leading Business by Design programme, which had commissioned qualitative research across several sectors of the economy: automotive, aerospace and the domestic construction industry.

The commissioned research had been undertaken by three agencies, and involved reviewing how companies in these sectors used design in practice. My role was to synthesise findings, drawing out common patterns across all the sectors.

I designed and facilitated a half day workshop to identify themes with the researchers and Design Council staff. Following this, I wrote an overview report, used at the Design Council's annual Design Summit to disseminate research findings.

The report is available here.
